    What is a hackathon?

An event where people come together (physically or virtually) to collaborate on technology-based solutions.

The word "hackathon" is a misnomer. There will be no "hacking" in terms of gaining unauthorized access to private information. A more accurate term may be "techathon."

    Is there a registration fee?

Nope. Legal Services Corporation supports the event, so there isn't a cost to participate.

Can you give me an idea of the projects that people work on?

What does "access to justice" mean?

Hard to define succinctly. You can find a good explanation on the website of the Alberta Civil Liberties Research Centre.

How much time will this take prior to the hackathon?

Generally 2-4 hours to decide on a project, meet with your project team, and do some prep work. Some do more, some do less.

What if I can't attend the entire hackathon?

Feel free to join for what you can. And let your team know about your schedule.

    Will there be prizes?

1st Place and Runner-up Awards will be given for the most innovative projects. Awards will be based on the overall ingenuity and presentation of the project.

I can't attend the hackathon, but I have an idea for a project that I would like to share

Great! Go to our Project Ideas page and fill out the form. We'll make a blog post for it and see what the community thinks.

Are there any rules on what technologies can be used?

    Nope - your choice.

I'm not a programmer. Why would I attend a hackathon?

Building a good solution requires a variety of roles. Just to name a few ~

    >> People who understand the client perspective

    >> People who know the law and how it can be applied

    >> Designers and architects to put the pieces together

    >> Programmers that can turn the vision into reality

    >> Project managers to keep everything on track
